Adoption Fees

The adoption fee will be indicated in each dog’s bio. All fees are subject to applicable taxes.

Our guidelines are as follows:

Dogs < 3 years - $750

Dogs 4-7 years - $700

Dogs 8+ years - $650

NOTE:

Tri-Paw - cost per dog (as above) less $50

Bonded Pairs - cost per dog (as above) less $100

Disabled/Cart - cost per dog (as above) less $150

How Does it Work?

Once you have been approved to adopt a dog, we require a $100 CAD deposit be paid in order to reserve your dog. This deposit goes towards the final adoption fee and will be deducted on your invoice. This deposit is non-refundable should you decide that you would like to reheome during the trial period.

Once your dog has been booked on a flight, the balance of the adoption fee will be due. At this point, you will receive an official invoice with a detailed cost breakdown (including any applicable taxes). Adopters are required to pay the balance of the invoice before their dog arrives.

All payments can be made via E-Transfer or PayPal to accounting@wcpdogrescue.com. Please include your Dog's Name and Invoice Number (if applicable) in the Memo section. We are set up for automatic deposits, so no need for a security question.

What Does the Adoption Fee Cover?

Rescue-Related Costs - i.e. initial rehabilitation, overseas foster costs etc.

Flight Costs - i.e. TSA-Approved Crate, Additional Baggage Charge etc.

Distemper Vaccination (x2)

Rabies Vaccination

Heartworm Testing

Microchip Insertion - NOTE: not applicable to dogs from Guadalajara

Deworming

Medical Certificate - required for international travel

Additional Fees

If your dog is flying into Vancouver, you can expect to pay a $36.50 CAD Agricultural Inspection Fee in order for Canadian Customs to release your dog. There is also usually a $20 CAD porter fee. If your dog is flying into Seattle, similar fees may apply.

Please bring cash to the airport for these costs.

If your dog is flying into Seattle, you can either drive down and pick up your dog yourself or we can arrange to have a reputable Pet Transport company bring your dog to Langley, BC for pickup. This service costs $235 CAD

Refunds

The $100 deposit is fully refundable as long as you notify WCP that you have changed your mind about adopting your dog before he/she is booked on a flight. The deposit is non-refundable if you decide to cancel the adoption after we inform you that the dog has been booked on a flight.

The adoption fee (including the $100 deposit) is fully refundable if you determine within 28 days (4 weeks) after the arrival of your dog that they are not a good fit for you/your family. WCP recognizes that sometimes it takes longer than 4 weeks to make this decision, so we are more than willing to extend your trial period. You must receive a written confirmation from a WCP representative to extend the trial period.

NOTE: in the unlikely event that your dog is not a good fit, WCP will request that you keep your dog as a “foster” until we find another suitable adopter for him/her.

Please do not hesitate to contact us any time. We understand that sometimes things don’t work out and adopters should never hesitate to reach out to us for support and advice.

More Information

West Coast Paws is a registered, non-profit organization. All of the adoption fees collected are used to help save more dogs and to support our Rescuers. The majority of our adoption fees are passed along to the Rescuer to cover flight and medical costs. A small minority of the adoption fee is retained by WCP to fund various operational costs (foster reimbursements, trainer fees, contingency fund etc.).
